This page is the verified crystal reference for Mine a Mountain. It collates the published crystal tiers, the size-class odds, and the boulder-to-pickaxe unlock requirements from sources checked on 2026-07-30. The full final-value formula (tier × weight × mutation × sell multiplier) is not exposed by the developer, so the wiki uses documented base values and player-observed samples rather than reconstructing value from text.

Crystal tiers

Tier Datamined base $ Verification
Common 10 2026-07-30, Fandom datamined
Uncommon 70 2026-07-30, Fandom datamined
Rare 500 2026-07-30, Fandom datamined
Epic 4,500 2026-07-30, Fandom datamined
Legendary 73,291 2026-07-30, Fandom datamined
Mythic 2,588,162 2026-07-30, Fandom datamined

These are datamined base values for the Fandom community catalog. They are useful ordering references but should not be treated as in-game sale prices — the full final-value formula includes a weight factor and (sometimes) a mutation multiplier that the wiki has not been able to confirm from a primary source.

The wiki’s three calculators use measured samples, not these base values. Run a single loop (or several) and type the measured average into the Bomb ROI Lab or the Time-to-Target Calculator.

Size classes

A crystal’s size class is its weight band. Larger crystals are rarer in the lower tiers and become more common at Mythic.

Class Weight band Common–Legendary odds (datamined)
S under 8 kg ~67%
M 8–30 kg ~30%
L 30–90 kg ~2.3%
XL 90–200 kg ~0.6%
Giant 200 kg–1 t ~0.1%
Colossal over 1 t (Mythic only)
Titan (Mythic only) (datamined but unverified)
Leviathan (Mythic only) (datamined but unverified)
Behemoth (Mythic only) (datamined but unverified)

The Colossal–Behemoth classes appear in the Fandom datamined catalog but at the time of writing have not been verified by a primary source. The wiki notes this on every reference and recommends reading with care.

Why this matters

Two practical consequences:

  • The carry cap failure mode. A 22 kg L-class crystal in a 20 kg backpack will not auto-collect. The beginner guide explains why and how the Upgrade Path Optimizer flags a wasted carry upgrade while warmth is the active limit.
  • Mutations are not constant. Elemental bombs (Fire, Ice, Thunder, etc.) reportedly roll their matching mutation 30% of the time at spawn. Thunder and Poison value rolls range 1.5×–2.5×; Wet 1.2×–1.8×; Radioactive can stack with one base mutation. None of these multipliers are verified by a primary source, but they change the realized value of a Mythic drop materially.

Boulder unlock requirements

A late-game Mine a Mountain mechanic is the boulder. Each boulder requires a minimum pickaxe tier to break. Boulders drop runes. The community datamine documents five boulder tiers:

Boulder Minimum pickaxe Source
Mossite Titanium Spike Fandom
Voltite Celestial Apex Fandom
Gildrite Eclipse Fang Fandom
Rimeveil Voidreign Fandom
Nocturnite The Terminus Fandom

The Upgrade Path Optimizer treats boulder unlocks as hard unlocks rather than rate improvements. A Titanium Spike unlock for Mossite is forced into the recommendation regardless of its $/h projection, because otherwise Mossite becomes unbreakable.

Eclipse Fang, Voidreign, and The Terminus do not have published Power and Mine Size values in the All Things How pickaxe lineup of 2026-07-09. The optimizer asks you for manual entry instead of extrapolating the doubling pattern.

Rune effects

When a boulder breaks, it can drop a rune — a temporary buff. Documented effects (Fandom, community) include:

  • Luck — +150% plot luck
  • Haste — +35% mining speed
  • Storm — 2× weather mutation chance
  • Weight — 2× carry weight
  • Fortune — +50% sell value
  • Detonation — +40% crystals from bombs
  • Preservation — halves rune drain
  • Warmth — 2× warmth
  • Excavator — +30% blast radius
  • Colossus — +68% chance to size crystals upward (can cascade toward Giant)

Drop rates per boulder are not exposed in current sources; the wiki keeps rune data as effect descriptions only.

Mutations

Element Chance at spawn Value roll
Thunder 30% 1.5×–2.5×
Poison 30% 1.5×–2.5×
Wet 30% 1.2×–1.8×
Radioactive (stacks with one base mutation) varies

These are datamined and community claims, not primary-source values. Every calculator input that touches mutations lets you override both the chance and the value range.

What the wiki does not claim

  • No official published list of all crystal tiers beyond the six above. Anything past Mythic is omitted from this page; the wiki does not invent it.
  • No weights-to-cash formula. The full final-value function is reconstructed via player samples, not invented math.
  • No pet, egg, or hatchable companion that drops crystals. No reliable source documents such a system; the wiki records the absence without claiming permanent nonexistence.

FAQ

Why does my Mythic sale pay less than 2,588,162? Because the datamined base is not the final sale value. The full function includes weight, mutation, and sell-multiplier multipliers; the Bomb ROI Lab models those.

How do I unlock a Mossite boulder? Equip a Titanium Spike or better. The Upgrade Path Optimizer flags the requirement as a hard unlock.

Where do mutations roll the most often? Fire and Ice bombs reportedly roll matching-element mutations 30% of the time; Thunder and Poison are the same. The Fandom source flags these as community data, so recheck after updates.

Frequently asked questions

What is the highest tier crystal?

Mythic is the highest crystal tier documented in current sources. The exact final cash value requires a measured sample; the datamined base value is 2,588,162 cash but the full weight-to-value formula is not exposed.

Why do my crystals roll different sizes?

Each tier has size-class odds. Common–Legendary crystals roll Small most of the time (S about 67%, M about 30%, L about 2.3%) and rarer sizes drop steeply. Mythic odds shift toward larger classes.
